Leadership Sunnyvale Video Contest Entry and Rules!

Submit a short video highlighting ‘what’s cool about Sunnyvale’ for a chance to win prizes!  Two contest winners, one youth and one adult category, will be announced at Sunnyvale’s Centennial Celebration on August 25th!  See official rules for more information including instructions on how to enter.

Post your video to our YouTube Channel by following these instructions:

    1. Sign in to your YouTube account.
    2. Go to http://www.youtube.com/user/LS2012VideoContest and watch the featured video.
    3. When you're done, click on the link just below the video; the link will take you to the page for that individual video. (You don't have to watch it again, unless you want to.)
    4. In the comments section below the video, click in the box that says "All comments"; that will produce a link that says "Create a video response."
    5. In the window that appears, you can choose a video you've already uploaded and click the "Use the selected video" button, or you can click the tab at the top of the dialog box that says, "Upload a video" to add a new one.

 

Leadership Sunnyvale Class of 2012 Video Contest Official Rules

Contest Description

  • Create an original video of three (3) minutes or less that answers the question:      “What’s Cool About Sunnyvale?” (the “Contest”).  This is your opportunity to highlight what is great about living in Sunnyvale – it could be your favorite place, service, activity or person!  Highlight what makes the City of Sunnyvale cool and unique!
  • Post your video to our YouTube Channel by following these instructions:

Sponsor

The sponsor of the Contest is Silicon Valley Leadership (“SVL”), a California 501(c)(3) non-profit corporation that runs the Leadership Sunnyvale program (“Sponsor”).  SVL's mission is to develop and empower individuals from our diverse community, to become effective leaders through training in the fundamentals of leadership and community awareness skills.

Eligibility

  • The Contest is free to enter; no purchase necessary.
  • Persons submitting a video to the Contest must be age 13 and older at time of entry, with parental/legal guardian consent if under age 18.
  • Persons submitting a video to the Contest must be a legal resident of Santa Clara County.
  • Persons directly affiliated with Sponsor, including directors, employees and students of the Leadership Sunnyvale Class of 2012, and the immediate families of such persons, are ineligible to win prizes.

Contest Period

  •   Videos may be submitted beginning on May 18, 2012 at 12:01am.  Videos must be submitted no later than July 31, 2012 at 11:59pm (the “Deadline”). 

How to Enter

  • Sponsor, in its sole discretion, shall have the right to disqualify any entries that Sponsor deems to be derogatory, inappropriate, or for any reason whatsoever. 
  • Only one video entry per contestant.

Rules

Video Content:  Video will be accepted and eligible to win a prize only if it is no longer than three (3) minutes, submitted by the Deadline, posted to www.leadershipsunnyvale.org, and is entirely the original work of the contestant(s).  Entries will be disqualified if Sponsor, in its sole discretion, determines that such entry: (a) may violate the copyright, trademark rights, right of privacy, right of publicity or other rights of any third party (this includes but is not limited to persons and products appearing in video and the audio component of video); (b) includes any content that is inappropriate or unfit for publication (e.g., hate speech, nudity or profanity); (c) is not in the spirit of the Contest Description; (d) disparages Sponsor, the City of Sunnyvale, or contains any matter that could be characterized as defamatory, libelous or scandalous; (e) promotes any illegal conduct; (f) includes personally identifiable information (i.e. email address or phone number).

Clearances:  Each Participant is solely responsible for obtaining from all applicable individuals or entities any and all required rights, releases, consents, clearances, licenses, and other authorization necessary to use their video Entry in any and all media.   

Grant of rights in video.  By entering, you (on behalf of yourself and your child, if applicable): (a) grant an exclusive, worldwide, perpetual, irrevocable, sublicensable, royalty-free license to Sponsor to use your video (without additional notice or approval of any kind) for purposes of this Contest (including the advertising/promotion/publicity of same) and other promotions that may be offered by Sponsor as well as for all other lawful purposes, with you further agreeing upon Sponsor’s request and without compensation to execute any documents (on behalf of yourself and your child) required by Sponsor so as to confirm such grant of rights.  The rights described in this paragraph begin immediately upon submission of the submitted video and continue indefinitely.  Contest participant must not have granted any person or entity other than Sponsor the right to use the video. 

By accepting a prize, prize winner (on behalf of him/herself and his/her child if applicable) grants to Sponsor or any party authorized by Sponsor, the right to print, publish, broadcast and use, worldwide in any media now known or hereafter developed, including but not limited to the World Wide Web, at any time or times, the winner's and/or his/her child’s name, photo or other likeness and biographical information as news or information (or for any other permissible use), and for advertising, trade, and promotional purposes without additional compensation or consideration, and without notification, review or approval except where prohibited by law, and agrees to provide such consent in writing upon request.

Prizes

  •  The age 13-17 category winner will receive a prize, either cash or in-kind goods or services, valued at least $50.  The 18 and over category winner will also receive a prize, either cash or in-kind goods or services, valued at least $50.  Prizes will be donated by our generous business partners.  Exact prizes will be determined and announced no later than July 1, 2012 on our website at www.leadershipsunnyvale.org.

Winner Selection

  • Members of the Leadership Sunnyvale Class of 2012 will screen all submitted videos to ensure they meet the basic criteria of the contest, including originality, adherence to the theme and overall quality.  From those submitted videos deemed to meet the basic criteria, based solely at the discretion of the Leadership Sunnyvale Class of 2012, one winner from each category (adult and 13-17) will be chosen based on the panel’s votes as described below.  Sponsor has no obligation to post or display any submitted video and may at its discretion remove any submitted videos at any time. 
  • A distinguished panel consisting of Sponsor’s directors, employees and students of the Leadership Sunnyvale Class of 2012 shall vote on the eligible video from each category that each panelist, in their opinion, is most deserving to win the applicable prize. The video gathering a majority of panelist votes in each category shall be the winner.  Such voting will take place on August 15, 2012 at a located TBD.
  • The winning video will be announced on August 27, 2012. 
  • The winning video may also be posted, at Sponsor’s discretion, on the Leadership Sunnyvale website, the Leadership Sunnyvale Facebook page, or one of its partner’s or sponsor’s website(s).
  • Winners agree to comply with all terms and conditions set forth in these Official Rules.  Winning is contingent on fulfilling all requirements. 

Privacy

Children ages 13-17 must obtain parental/legal guardian written consent before submitting the video.  Under no circumstances shall Sponsor accept a Contest submission from a child under the age of 13.  Sponsor will use a participant’s identifying personal information only for the following purposes: identifying videos and participants, judging videos, choosing winners, verifying and confirming eligibility and announcing winners.  Except for announcing winners, Sponsor will not disclose identifying personal information to any third parties.  Parents/Legal Guardians may have access to their child’s personal information to review and/or have the information deleted.  Sponsor shall maintain the confidentiality, security, and integrity of information collected from children ages 13-17.

Assumption of Risk and Release of Liability

Contest participant(s) assumes all risks in creating and submitting a video to participate in this Contest.  By entering, participants agree to defend and indemnify Sponsor and Sponsor’s principals, subsidiaries, affiliates, directors, officers, employees, and agents from any and all liability for any injuries, loss or damage of any kind arising from or in connection with the contest or receipt or misuse of any prize.
By participating in the Contest, participants (and their parent(s) if applicable) release, discharge and hold harmless Sponsor from any and all damages whether direct or indirect, arising out of participation in the Contest, or the acceptance, use, misuse or possession of prizes.  By participating, each registered participant agrees (a) to abide by these Official Rules and the decisions of the Sponsor and its agents which such decisions shall be final and binding.

Sponsor reserves the right to suspend and/or terminate (in whole or part) this Contest with or without notice if, in Sponsor’s sole discretion, the Contest becomes infected, corrupted or the administration, security, fairness, integrity or proper play of the Contest is compromised such that the Contest cannot be run as originally intended.  In such case, Sponsor reserves the right to award the prizes from eligible entries received before the cancellation, or to award no prizes and return all donated prizes to the donor(s).  Notice of such action by Sponsor will be posted on Sponsor’s website.
Contest, including construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules shall be (1) governed by the laws of the State of California; (2) any dispute, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected in any way with the Contest or any prize awarded shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and brought exclusively in a federal or state court in Santa Clara County in California; (3) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering this Contest (if any), but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (4) under no circumstances will registered participant be permitted to obtain awards for, and registered participant hereby waives all rights to claim, indirect, punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased.
Sponsor’s and/or its agencies’ failure to enforce any provision of these Official Rules shall not constitute the waiver of that provision.
